The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center at the VA Boston Healthcare System intends to award a sole-source, firm-fixed-price contract for the procurement of ten RAZ shower commode chairs specifically designed for spinal cord injury/disorder (SCI/D) inpatients at the West Roxbury unit. This award is justified under federal acquisition regulations citing only one responsible source capable of meeting the unique seating and toileting needs of veterans with SCI/D. The RAZ chairs feature the exclusive Ischial and Pelvic Alignment System (IPAS), which supports optimal positioning, skin integrity, and independence for users with core and trunk instability. The chairs’ customizable and interchangeable seat surfaces, along with tilt and self-propulsion functionalities, address critical hygiene and safety requirements that alternative products do not satisfy. The delivery and use of these chairs will occur primarily at three VA Boston Healthcare System locations, with operations scheduled Monday through Friday during standard business hours. The contract emphasizes high-quality equipment to promote safe toileting, hygiene, and bathing for veterans while maximizing their independence and health outcomes. The notice invites interested parties to demonstrate evidence that competition would benefit the Government but clarifies that this is not a solicitation for competitive proposals. Questions and responses should be directed via email to the assigned Contracting Specialist, with the notice closing on August 8, 2022.
