AI Contract Overview
The Department of Veterans Affairs, Network Contracting Office 19, intends to award a sole source procurement to Howmedica Osteonics, Inc. DBA Stryker Orthopaedics for six specific orthopedic and podiatry instrument sets, including the Alpha GT, PLFT20 ORIF Inst & Screw, PSF T8 T15 ORIF Inst & Screws, ASNIS 65 80 INST & SHORT SCREWS, Omega Hip Inst and Screws, and Infinity Adaptis Total Ankle, each in a quantity of one. The procurement is justified under FAR 12.102(a) due to the proprietary screw-head design of Stryker’s instruments, which is exclusively compatible with existing surgical drills at the RMR VAMC; switching to another manufacturer would necessitate complete replacement of all corresponding equipment, leading to significant cost and operational disruption. The NAICS code for this requirement is 339113, and the vendor is classified as a large business with more than 750 employees, making it ineligible for small business set-asides. Respondents interested in competing must submit technical documentation such as product specifications, cut sheets, brochures, or capability statements by 4:00 PM Mountain Time on May 12, 2026, to Christopher.Hollingsworth2@va.gov, though the government retains full discretion to proceed without competition based on the responses received. No contract value, pricing, delivery schedule, or packaging requirements have been specified, as this is a notice of intent and not a solicitation for bids. The contracting specialist responsible for the procurement is Chris Hollingsworth, and all communications must be directed to him via email; no formal contract clauses, inspection criteria, or evaluation factors are included since no competitive process is anticipated.
