AI Contract Overview
The Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically the Louis A. Johnson Medical Center, is seeking to procure a new WanderGuard patient elopement system to replace aging equipment that has exceeded its practical life expectancy. This system is critical for monitoring veterans with dementia or cognitive impairments to prevent unsafe elopement. The procurement includes the WanderGuard Blue Door Bundle, external antennas, outdoor keypads, passive infrared sensors, and wireless remote annunciators. Securitas Healthcare LLC is the incumbent provider, and the current contract is valued at 54,825 dollars with a potential end date of October 31, 2026. The agency has justified a single-source award to Securitas Healthcare because their system is the only solution that ensures full compatibility with existing infrastructure, thereby avoiding costly replacements and operational disruptions. The contract is structured as a firm fixed price agreement and is classified as a likely recompete opportunity.

Johnson VA Medical Center. The current WanderGuard equipment has exceeded its practical life expectancy and is beginning to show signs of age through more frequent malfunctions. These systems are critical for monitoring Veterans with dementia, cognitive impairment, or other conditions that increase the risk of wandering or elopement. A reliable alert system allows staff to respond quickly when a patient attempts to leave a designated care area, helping to prevent injuries, unsafe situations, or patients becoming lost. Upgrading to a new WanderGuard system is essential to ensure consistent monitoring, reduce equipment failures, and maintain a safe care environment for our Veterans. Upgrading to the newest WanderGuard system from Securitas Healthcare provides best value because it is fully compatible with our existing infrastructure, avoiding costly replacement, retraining, and operational disruptions. Securitas Healthcare is the only vendor that can provide an upgrade path that maintains system continuity, preserves interoperability, and reduces risk to resident safety monitoring. 5.4. Description of market research conducted and results or statement why it was not conducted: Market research was conducted to identify patient elopement prevention solutions capable of meeting the facility s clinical and operational requirements. Findings indicate that WanderGuard is the only system that fully meets the necessary technical and clinical criteria while ensuring seamless compatibility with the facility s existing WanderGuard infrastructure.
