The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to award a sole source purchase order to Becton Dickinson in Chicago, Illinois, for the acquisition of the BD Bactec MGIT 960 System, along with an instrument starter kit and printer group. This new instrument is intended to replace the outdated Bactec 460 device currently in use. The MGIT 960 system offers automated readings, which will eliminate the need for manual weekend readings and the use of radioactive substrates that are required by the older model. The sole source procurement is justified under FAR part 6.302-1, as Becton Dickinson is identified as the only provider with the necessary expertise and capacity to supply this specific instrument. This is not a competitive solicitation, and no request for proposals is available. However, other firms that believe they can provide similar services are invited to submit written notifications to the Contracting Officer within 15 days from the synopsis publication date. The government retains full discretion regarding whether to proceed with a competitive procurement based on any responses received. Inquiries about the contract may be directed to Christine Dorsey via email or fax, as provided. The procurement aims to ensure continuity in laboratory operations by upgrading critical diagnostic equipment.
