THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES AMENDMENT NO. 1 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FORCOOLSNAP:K4 INTERLINE CAMERA SYSTEMS. Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) intheir quote. This notice serves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and awritten amendment will not be issued. The purpose of this amendment is to RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING VENDOR QUESTION:Q1: The term "offers special 'on-chip accumulation' mode" is not quite specific enoughto narrow this down to a single model. There are two possible models of this camera thatcould be supplied. Can you tell me which of the following models you are looking for inthis solicitation?K4 Model# 1The standard K4 camera comes with 'on-chip accumulation', which is typically termed asintegration. This is typically used for long integration times for higher camerasensitivity.K4 Model# 2There is also another version, which we have made in the past, that allows the user togate the camera between 1,000 to 5,000 gates per second. This model allows the sensor tobe "turned off" for short periods of time to keep the camera from accumulating lightduring points in time when a laser is pulsed. This keeps the camera from saturating due to the light coming from the laser pulse. Thismode is a very fast mode of very short "on-chip accumulation" periods, from 0.2 to 1millisecond in duration.A1: The special "on-chip accumulation" mode was specifically designed for use inapplications such as Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP). In this mode, the camera uses theinterline transfer functionality of the chip to allow it to acquire up to severalthousand very short images and combines them into a single image. In other words, alight source could be modulated so that it produced one 10 microsecond pulse at a rate of1000 times per second (or a 10 microsecond pulse at a rate of 1 kHz). Using the on-chipaccumulation feature, the camera could be set to take a short exposure image (say on theorder of 10-20 microseconds set to coincide with the light flashing) and the chargeaccumulated on the chip during exposure is then stored in the masked regions of theinterline chip. This charge is then accumulated over multiple image flashes (forexample, charge is accumulated over 1000 or more individual light flashes) in order to"build" a suitable image. Then this one image (consisting of a 1000 flashes) is thenread out of the camera, thus significantly reducing read noise in the camera (as only oneimage is read out and not 1000). The closest description would be what is mentioned in the K4 Model #2, but thedescription seems misleading as it is described as the camera being off only when thelaser (in this case) fires. We actually need much better control of the camera exposuretime, therefore, the Government's description above is accurate. The due date for receipt of offers IS extended to SEPTEMBER 9, 2009.Companies shall provide the information stated in the synopsis/RFQ posted on the NASAAcquisition Internet Service (NAIS) on SEPTEMBER 1, 2009.
