The U.S. Army's Engineer Research and Development Center, specifically the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory, plans to issue a sole source contract to Thermo Fischer Scientific in West Palm Beach, Florida, for the acquisition of a DXR Raman Microscope. This simplified acquisition procurement will be a firm fixed price delivery order conducted under the authority of 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1). The equipment specifications detail a highly advanced Raman microscope system designed for precise scientific research, featuring a computer-controlled confocal aperture, automated alignment of visual and laser components, and software-controlled calibration. The microscope boasts a minimum spatial resolution of 1 micron, confocal depth resolution of 2 microns, and spectral resolution of 5 cm-1, among other high-performance optical characteristics. Included in the procurement are essential accessories to enhance functionality and ease of use, such as a trinocular viewer with video camera capabilities, brightfield and darkfield illumination and objectives, a motorized microscope stage with autofocus and z-axis control, and specific excitation laser components calibrated for near-infrared radiation. The software package will support both Raman and FT-IR spectral data, include extensive spectral databases, and enable time-resolved data collection and processing. The order also specifies a compatible PC workstation with robust processing power, memory, and storage, accompanied by a high-resolution flat panel monitor, both backed by three years of support. This contract ensures the laboratory will have cutting-edge microscopy tools tailored to their research needs, facilitating enhanced analytical capabilities within the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory.
