Statement of Work: for Baltimore VA Medical Center, Maryland Exercise and Robotics Center of Excellence For the purchase of Brain Vision's: BP-02683, BP-02221, BP-02054, & BP-02111, & the accessories needed to acquire physiologic data with this equipment June 3, 2011 From: Ron Goodman, PhD., Human Motor Performance Lab Process and procedures of work to be accomplished with this procurement: Our lab is involved with research and development for optimizing motor-learning-based exercise (task-oriented) and robotics interventions aimed at increasing recovery from stroke in Veterans. In order to better understand the neurophysiologic components associated with successful rehabilitation strategies we employ electrophysiological data acquisition. Currently we collect electroencephalographic (EEG) data, a measure of brain electrical activity to track the changes in the neurophysiologic parameters that are associated with successful motor learning and functional gains in walking and balance for stroke victims. This affords a higher resolution of the factors involved with recovery from stroke and increases our ability to design more efficacious interventions. The proposed procurement is a complementary amplifier (made by the manufacturer of our current/existing EEG system) and data acquisition system that allows for the collection of autonomic and muscle activity data, simultaneous with the EEG. The simultaneous collection of brain and body signals gives us the ability to time-lock the various data streams and more fully understand the complex interactions of human brain and body systems. Once again to emphasize: the combination of brain and body measures provides a deeper look into the physiological factors involved with both, the impairment and successful recovery from stroke. The proposed procurement in combination with our existing equipment greatly enhances our capabilities for designing more efficacious interventions to increase recovery from stroke for our Veterans.
