AI Contract Overview

The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System plans to enter into a sole source contract with Sun Nuclear Corporation for maintenance services on their Mapcheck software and hardware. The initial contract term is nine months, with four optional one-year renewals. This sole source justification is based on the proprietary nature of the hardware and software, as well as patent protections held by Sun Nuclear, making them the only available supplier capable of providing the required maintenance and repair services for the existing equipment. The procurement will follow Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302-1(2), which allows for non-competitive contracting under specific circumstances involving exclusive rights or proprietary technology. The notice indicates this is not a solicitation for competitive proposals but invites interested parties to submit their expressions of interest and supporting materials by a stated deadline. This input will help the VA determine whether a competitive procurement might be warranted, though the final decision rests solely with the Contracting Officer. The contract relates to NAICS Code 334519, covering measuring and controlling device manufacturing. The contracting office managing this procurement is located at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, and all responses must be submitted via email by the specified deadline, with no telephone inquiries accepted.
