Full Description

Marathon Petroleum Company proposes the installation of two (2) sentinel wells CW-14- B3 and CW-14-B4 at the southwest corner of the clover leaf area located within Caltrans right-of-way along Interstate (I-)710 at Post Mile (PM) 18.36, as well as to perform traffic control activities in the City of South Gate, Los Angeles County. The proposed work will entail the installation of the proposed wells as a two-well cluster with 20-foot screens installed at separate depths within the gage Aquifer. Well CW-14-B3 will be installed at the upper portion of the Gage Aquifer and CW-14-B4 will be installed at the lower portion of the Gage Aquifer system. Marathon Petroleum Company is requesting a temporary encroachment permit to access Caltrans right-of-way along I- 710 at PM 18.36 to complete the above-mentioned work and to perform associated temporary traffic control activities. In addition, the wells will need to be accessed for sampling twice a year for a period of five (5) years following well construction. Excavation will have a maximum depth of 3360-inches, a maximum width of 12-inches and a maximum length of one (1) linear foot. No public utilities will be relocated, and no new right-of-way will be acquired for the project.
