The Department of Veterans Affairs National Acquisition Center plans to issue a Request for Proposal for laundry bags, with an estimated annual purchase quantity of approximately 35,309 units. This procurement is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) set-aside, limiting participation to small domestic or outlying area manufacturers including several U.S. territories and minor islands. The contract will result in a single award, emphasizing compliance with detailed product specifications for two types of laundry bags, measuring 18 inches and 26 inches in diameter respectively. Both bag sizes require 100% polyester fabric with specific water resistance, weight, color requirements (red, white, and yellow), and labeling standards. The bags must feature durable construction including seamless round or square bottoms, specific handle sizes for emptying, pull-over cover flaps, elastic bands, and carefully stitched seams designed for durability and safety. These bags are specially intended for use in settings where infectious materials are handled, ensuring containment to avoid leakage. The solicitation will be issued electronically in commercial item format with a 30-day response window starting around August 23, 2011. Vendors who previously submitted samples under a related solicitation may reuse them but must submit updated pricing and documents by the new deadline. Interested parties are encouraged to monitor federal business opportunities for updates, amendments, and further details. All inquiries should be directed to the contracting officer, Amber Zavala, via email. This contract reflects a critical purchase intended to support infection control within VA medical facilities through the reliable provision of standardized, quality laundry bags.
