The Defense Logistics Agency, Defense Supply Center Philadelphia is planning to negotiate a sole source contract for the procurement of sustainment quantities of the Advanced Bomb Suit, model EOD-9, and its components currently used by the U.S. Air Force. The items to be purchased include 7 medium and 8 large EOD-9 Bomb Suits, along with 15 helmets with APS, breathing apparatus, steel visors, and NOMEX gloves with covers in size large. These suits are manufactured by Med-Eng Systems, Inc. of Canada and are considered unique due to their proprietary design, integrating critical features such as ballistics, blast, impact protection, communications systems compatibility, and Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical protection capabilities. The Air Force requires continuity in acquiring this specific suit and accessories to maintain compatibility with their existing equipment. This acquisition is justified as sole source because no alternative commercial off-the-shelf bomb suit meets the comprehensive performance and integration requirements needed by the Air Force. The Advanced Bomb Suit EOD-9 is deemed the only available Explosive Ordnance Disposal suit system that adequately fulfills these strict operational criteria. Competitive bidding will not be conducted; however, interested parties may submit statements of capability including descriptive literature within 15 days to the contact points listed. The contract solicitation is identified as SP0100-06-R-0041 and is managed by contract specialists and officers at the DLA, with no drawings provided for this procurement.
