8th Street Re-Opening and Improvements Project

The proposed project consists of roadway improvements along 8th Street between 3rd Avenue and 5th Avenue in the City of Marina, Monterey County. The project includes reconstruction and rehabilitation of the existing roadway; construction and replacement of curb, gutter, sidewalk, ADA-compliant curb ramps, bicycle lanes, and a multi-use path; installation of new pavement, pavement markings, traffic signage, and striping; and improvements to intersections, including curb returns and pedestrian crossings. The project also includes installation of a new storm drainage system consisting of pipelines, catch basins, manholes, infiltration chambers, and associated drainage facilities; grading; utility adjustments and relocations as necessary; demolition and replacement of existing pavement and other roadway improvements; and restoration of disturbed areas. Construction would occur within the existing roadway corridor on California State University, Monterey Bay-owned property and existing public rights-of-way. The purpose of the project is to rehabilitate existing transportation infrastructure, improve pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular circulation, enhance accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), improve stormwater drainage, and maintain the long-term functionality of the roadway. The primary beneficiaries of the project include California State University, Monterey Bay; the City of Marina; campus students, faculty, staff, and visitors; adjacent property owners; and the traveling public.
