This is a notice of intent for the US Fish and WIldlife Service to award PO 101815M708 to N. West Youth Corps for Haz Fuels Reduction at LPO NWR in Colville, WA. The US Fish & Wildlife Service, Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge, requires assistance in managing an extensive and on-going prescribed fire program. The use of contract crews to perform tasks directly related to this program is the most cost-effective method and does not displace refuge employees. The benefits provided include a reduction in property losses due to wildland fire and community plans and cooperation to reduce fire hazards. Any and all work shall be of a nature that will assist in training, developing and educating young adults in the principles and practices of resource management and conservation. Crew work will consist of thinning dense stands of forested regeneration, limbing leave trees, piling thinning slash into small piles, and if needed, covering the piles with paper. Contractor will be required to provide labor, equipment and transportation to the specified site to accomplish desired result. Work will be done in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and Refuge policies. Work site and specifications will be provided by the agency for each project assignment.
