The Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Integrated Service Network 3, James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, New York, plans to award a sole source contract to Tekscan, Inc. for the supply and maintenance of a high-resolution Walkway Pressure Mapping System, specifically the HR Walkway T2 Versatek System. This award, authorized under FAR 6.302-1 as only one responsible source can fulfill the agency’s requirements, involves providing all necessary labor, equipment, tools, materials, repair services, technical support, software updates, and upgrades. The system will be installed and used at the New York Harbor Healthcare System’s Manhattan and Brooklyn campuses. The contract will be firm-fixed-price based, with the government holding discretion to open competition only if suitable capabilities statements are received by a specified deadline. If no viable competition arises, negotiation will proceed solely with Tekscan, Inc. The acquired Walkway Pressure Mapping System is intended to support a research study titled "Step Up to Avert Amputation in Diabetes" and must meet specific hardware and software specifications. The system requires a highly sensitive platform with substantial sensor density and fast scanning capabilities, capable of capturing detailed plantar pressure data. Its software must provide extensive real-time and recorded data visualization in both 2D and 3D formats, automatic gait parameter calculations, symmetry scoring, and comprehensive data analysis tools such as automated foot segmentation, temporal parameter calculation, and center of force trajectory tracking. The device will enable detailed evaluation of gait dynamics and pre- and post-treatment assessments to support clinical research and patient care.
