The Department of Defense intends to award a 12 month Firm Fixed Price contract to Kaman Aerospace Corporation for the continued study and testing of the Broad Area Unmanned Responsive Re-supply Operations helicopter. This sole source procurement focuses on two primary tasks: developing a flight test program to evaluate performance improvements regarding rotor rpm, engine power, transmission limits, stabilizer angles, and airspeed for external loads, as well as conducting flight tests to enhance the system's simulation capabilities. This effort builds upon previous work where Kaman Aerospace Corporation demonstrated the technical feasibility of vertical take-off and landing, the transport of unmanned ground vehicles, aerial re-supply missions, and ten hour endurance flights. The acquisition is being handled by the US Army Aviation and Missile Command under solicitation number W31P4Q-08-R-0287, with formal communications directed to Contract Specialist Lechara Meardry and Contracting Officer Frederick Glover III.
