AI Contract Overview

The National Institute of Neurological Disease and Stroke (NINDS) is seeking a collaborator through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) to partner on the development and commercialization of a diagnostic kit for primary brain tumor subtypes. This kit is based on a novel method developed by NINDS to identify antigens uniquely or predominantly expressed in brain tumor cells, which promises to facilitate rapid, accurate histological diagnosis of tumor subtypes such as astrocytomas and oligodendrogliomas. The technology also offers significant research applications by enabling the isolation of tumor cells from surgical specimens, allowing better study of brain cancer biology. Currently, the technology has preliminary identification of tumor-specific antigens, but further research and development are required, including mapping antigenic epitopes, screening antibody libraries, and evaluating antibodies as diagnostic tools. Interested parties were invited to submit letters of interest by October 30, 2003, with proposals reviewed on a rolling basis. The program aims to improve diagnostic precision and patient treatment planning, while also enhancing research capabilities. Contact details for inquiries were provided through NINDS Technology Transfer.
