This contract between the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Research and Development and Micro Photonics focuses on using high-resolution micro-CT scan analyses to identify morphological changes in the brain vasculature of blast-exposed rodents. The primary objective is to observe the development of cerebral vascular degenerative processes over time in animal models of blast-induced traumatic brain injury. The period of performance runs from September 9, 2019, to September 8, 2020, with work performed at the Micro Photonics facility in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Under the agreement, VA scientists handle rodent exposure, perfusion, and tissue shipment, while the contractor is responsible for performing the scans and generating digital data for 3D reconstruction and quantitative analysis of vascular length, volume, and area. The contractor must provide project management plans, weekly and monthly reports, and collaborate with VA scientists to write findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Deliverables are subject to a government inspection period of up to thirty days to ensure accuracy and completeness.
