The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders at the National Institutes of Health is seeking proposals for a research and development project focused on electrically stimulating the vestibular nerve after loss of function in the vestibular endorgans. The project aims to create methods that can provide therapeutic benefits to patients during episodes of dizziness caused by irregular vestibular activity and potentially serve as part of a balance prosthesis. The research primarily involves animal studies, with an emphasis on applications relevant to human clinical treatments in the near future. This initiative is structured as a five-year cost-reimbursement contract, with the award expected around September 1, 2006. The solicitation was planned for release around September 13, 2005, with a proposal submission deadline 60 days later. Interested parties are encouraged to regularly check the designated website for updates or amendments to the solicitation. All qualified sources are invited to submit proposals, which will be reviewed by the Government. The contract point of contact is Contracting Officer John P DeCenzo, who can be reached via email or phone.

The objective of this research is to develop methods of electrically stimulating the vestibular nerve, which can provide patient benefit during transient attacks of irregular activity leading to dizziness and/or act as a component of a balance prosthesis. This contract is directed towards animal studies with close ties to clinical applications in human patients in the near future. A five-year, cost-reimbursement type contract is anticipated, with award made on or about September 1, 2006. The solicitation will be issued on or about September 13, 2005, and will be posted on this Web site. Solicitation # 2026-1045
The 2026 International Joint Research Rapid Support Project, solicitation number 2026-1045, is a government-funded initiative managed by the National Research Foundation of Korea and the Ministry of Science and ICT. The project focuses on developing core original technologies for high-density parallel light sources, specifically micro-LED and micro-OLED, for use in AI data center optical interconnects. The total government support funding is 737.5 million KRW for a 16-month performance period running from December 2026 to March 2028. This project is classified as a National Strategic Technology in the semiconductors and next-generation OLED sectors, aiming to advance from Technology Readiness Level 3 to TRL 5. A mandatory requirement for this solicitation is the establishment of an international joint research network with Japanese research institutions to secure expertise in organic light-emitting materials and patents. Technical objectives include developing 32-channel arrays with specific performance targets: transmission speeds exceeding 1 GHz for micro-LED and 0.2 GHz for micro-OLED, and driving energy levels of 1 pJ/bit and 20 pJ/bit respectively. Final acceptance requires the submission of a functional prototype and verification through accredited certification bodies, official test reports, or witnessed self-evaluations. All research achievements and commercialization results must be managed through the Integrated Research Information System (IRIS), and the project is subject to technology fee collection and the 3-book 5-public rule for concurrent research limits.
