Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), managed by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy, is seeking industrial partners to develop and commercialize its patented "Optically Triggered Fire Set/Detonator System." This innovative technology allows for precise, simultaneous initiation of high explosives at multiple points with minimal timing variance, enabling the creation of surface lighting waves that closely match intended surface geometries. Its unique capability to initiate large arrays of shaped charges simultaneously with very low jitter is particularly beneficial for industries such as oil servicing, where shaped charges are used for well perforation and geologic formation penetration. By allowing charges to be closely packed and timed precisely, the system significantly enhances yield by preventing interference between adjacent charges. LLNL is in the process of securing patent rights for this invention and is currently not seeking procurement but rather partners interested in commercializing the technology. Companies wishing to express interest should submit a written statement detailing their corporate capabilities related to the commercialization of the detonator system. Submissions must be sent to the LLNL Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization office within 30 days of the announcement date to be considered. This opportunity represents a collaboration aimed at advancing explosive initiation technology with significant applications in energy extraction and related sectors.

LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS PARTNERSHIPS WITH INDUSTRY TO DEVELOP AND COMMERCIALIZE “OPTICALLY TRIGGERED FIRE SET/DETONATOR SYSTEM? Announcement: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking one or more industrial partners to develop and commercialize LLNL's "Optically Triggered Fire Set/Detonator System". The invention enables the initiation of high explosives at a single point in space at a precisely planned time. The use of an array of units allows many points in space to be initiated at a precisely planned time with very low jitter of the array in time. This can be applied to creating surface lighting waves with very high faithfulness to the planned surface geometry. The initiation of large arrays of shaped charges simultaneously, with very little jitter, may be of interest to the oil servicing industry as well as for perforation, perforating guns, and shaped charges. Shaped charges are used to perforate the sides of wells and surrounding geologic formation with as many holes as possible. Adjacent charges can destroy one another’s jet if they are too close in distance or too far apart in time when initiated. This invention allows charges to be close-packed in their array, vastly improving the yield. LLNL is in the process of patenting this invention. In the meantime, LLNL is seeking industrial partners to commercialize the invention. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Companies interested in commercializing LLNL's optically triggered fire set/detonator system should provide a written statement of interest and a description of corporate capabilities relevant to commercializing the technology as described. Written responses should be directed to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization P.O. Box 808, L-795 Livermore, CA 94551-0808 Attention: FBO00016-03 Please provide your written statement within thirty (30) days from the date this announcement is published to ensure consideration of your interest in LLNL's subject title.

Request for Information - Energetics Center of Excellence
Solicitation # W519TC-26-R-0019
Army Contracting Command-Rock Island, acting for the Portfolio Acquisition Executive Agile Sustainment and Ammunition and Project Lead Joint Services, is conducting market research to establish an Energetics Center of Excellence at the Blue Grass Army Depot in Richmond, Kentucky. The initiative seeks to address critical vulnerabilities in the Department of War energetics ecosystem, including aging infrastructure, fragile supply chains, and limited domestic capacity for explosives like RDX and HMX. The government is interested in transformative, commercially sustainable solutions delivered through a Public-Private Partnership that can scale rapidly during surge requirements without relying on recurring government funding for steady-state operations. Desired capabilities include onshoring production of precursors and components, implementing flexible and automated manufacturing, and accelerating the transition of next-generation formulations from lab to full-rate production. All physical infrastructure must be located at the Blue Grass Army Depot and must align with existing Army networks. The government is targeting a rapid implementation schedule of 48 months or less for full project transition and commissioning. While this is currently a Request for Information for market research, the government has indicated a potential intent to award a non-competitive, sole-source Undefinitized Contract Action with a Firm-Fixed-Price ceiling. Responses are due by November 2, 2026, and must include a technical approach, a Rough Order of Magnitude cost estimate, and a sustainable business model.
