The Department of Veterans Affairs, Network Contracting Office 7, plans to enter into a sole-source contract with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) to provide research assistance for a pilot study comparing Mindfulness-Based PTSD treatment to Prolonged Exposure for combat-related PTSD. This study is funded by the Veterans Health Administration, and MUSC's Psychiatry Department has been deeply involved in designing the research, managing the Institutional Review Board process, and establishing the de-identified database. Their specialized expertise and prior involvement uniquely position them to meet the study's strict deadlines and detailed requirements. The contract is being pursued under the NAICS code 541720 for Psychology Research and Development Services, with the government invoking a sole-source justification under FAR 6.302-1(b)(1)(i), citing that MUSC is the only responsible source able to satisfy the agency’s needs. Although this notice is not a competitive solicitation, interested parties can express their interest in participating by August 17, 2012. The decision to proceed without competition rests solely with the government. Whitney Warrington serves as the contract specialist and point of contact for this procurement.
