The Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) requires an open license on existing lidar data
acquired in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2022 for an area of interest of 22,876km2 in various regions of Alberta
(Fort McMurray, West of Edmonton and South of Calgary).
NRCan may also acquire an open license to existing lidar data in optional areas in Alberta. These optional
areas total approximately 25,400 km² (South of Forth McMurray, West of Fort McMurray and
Drumheller).
The license must be compatible with the Open Government License – Canada: https://open.canada.ca/en/open-government-licencecanada (https://open.canada.ca/en/open-government-licence-canada).
This type of licence allows the use and distribution of the LiDAR data and derivative products generated
by the Government of Canada to the entire population without restriction.
