The Department of Natural Resources Canada has a requirement to finalize the survey products produced under Cadastral Survey for the Proposed Pukaskwa National Park - Project 200614193
It is necessary to complete the survey documents by January 16, 2026, to meet the timetable set for the land transfers. Field conditions dictate that all field work be completed prior to the arrival of winter conditions.
The area of NRCan’s project 202514045 comprises:
Part of Lots 10, 11, 12, and 13, Concession 1, and Part of Lot 13, Concession 2, Geographic Township of Pic, all of the Geographic Township of Byron (annulled), Part of the Geographic Township of Homer (annulled), Part of the “Unsurveyed” Territory, District of Thunder Bay, Otter Island and Part of the Islands of Lake Superior, and Part of the Bed of Lake Superior, District of Thunder Bay, Province of Ontario
This project started in 2005 and required that Ontario Crown Location plans and Ontario Reference plans be deposited in the Ontario Land Registry system and subsequently recorded in the Canada Lands Surveys Records.
It was a requirement that the stakeholders including Canada Parks Agency approve the provisional plans. The surveyor completed provisional plans, and these were reviewed and approved by both the Office of the Surveyor General (Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry) and the Surveyor General Branch (Natural Resources Canada). However, for reasons beyond the surveyor’s control, the plans of survey were never approved and therefore not deposited in the Ontario Land Registry system and not recorded in the Canada Lands Survey Records.
