Aeration Services The Officer Candidate School (OCS) Physical Training (PT) fields are particularly prone to heavy foot traffic due to the candidate physical training (PT) which at times consists of roughly 2,500 candidates using the PT fields. This soil compaction reduces the ability for water to properly drain from the field and can directly result in standing water and puddles. If uncorrected, this soil compaction can lead to the thinning of the field turf. Aerating the OCS PT fields will assist in relieving the soil compaction, thus improving water drainage and improving the overall quality of the turf. On the safety side, standing water on the fields creates an unsafe condition for the candidates to PT. The standing water and resulting soft turf creates a situation where ankle injuries and lower extremity injuries are possible. In addition, the standing water provides breeding grounds for insects such as mosquitoes that can carry diseases. The aeration service OCS is currently requesting will ensure that the PT fields remain in a safe condition as well as remaining esthetically appealing. This will be a reoccurring annual service. Twice a year, once in April, and once in September. See attachment for more details.
