Alma Bridge Road Newt Passage Project

The Alma Bridge Road Newt Passage Project is a collaborative effort between the Santa Clara County Roads and Airports Department and the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District to restore wildlife passage along approximately 1.47 miles of Alma Bridge Road. Located along Lexington Reservoir, south of Los Gatos and north of Lexington Hills in Santa Clara County, the project focuses on creating safe crossings for California newts, other amphibian and reptile species, and small to mid-sized mammals. These corrective actions will be implemented by installing restoration measures underneath the existing roadway or within sections of elevated roadway inside the existing road prism. The project is classified under NAICS code 237310 and is managed by Principal Planner Ben Aghegnehu. It has been granted a statutory exemption under CEQA Guidelines 15260-15285 and Public Resources Code Section 21080.56, with formal written concurrence provided by the Director of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife on November 14, 2025, under Concurrence No. 21080.56-2025-079-R3. The project was officially posted on December 22, 2025, as a special notice.
