AI Contract Overview
The Department of Defense, through the 354th Contracting Squadron at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska, is conducting market research to identify capable vendors for a tracked over-snow transportation and grooming system to support outdoor recreation operations in extreme winter conditions. The requirement calls for a single complete package centered on a Superclass 1.2L VVT 12-valve/Euro 6 tracked utility vehicle, or an equal alternative, equipped with a passenger sled capable of transporting six adults and three children alongside winter gear and operational equipment. The system must include a windshield and hard-top kit for the sled, a removable 50mm ball hitch for towing, a roll-over guard with integrated work lighting, an emergency siren, and an engine heating system to ensure reliable operation in interior Alaska’s harsh cold. Essential grooming functionality is provided by an F-250 groomer with a single cross-country ski track setter to maintain ski hill surfaces and recreational trails. Additional safety and operational features include seat belts, LED work lights, and an orange beacon. The vehicle and all attached components must be engineered for performance on groomed trails, deep snow, and steep grades under extreme temperatures, with full compatibility and integration between the vehicle, sled, and grooming attachment ensured. Recurring operator training will be required as part of program sustainability. This solicitation is issued as a sources-sought notice with the identifier SSALPINASNOWMACHINELTJ, published on June 9, 2026, and responses are due by June 19, 2026. No contract value has been estimated, and no pricing, delivery schedule, or payment terms are included at this stage. The system must be delivered and operated at Eielson AFB, Alaska, with no set-asides or special contract requirements defined beyond the technical salient characteristics provided. Contact for inquiries is designated to Joseph C. Jimenez and Ryan Baudouin, with all responses expected to address the detailed equipment specifications outlined in the reference materials, particularly the Alpina system components, which serve as a benchmark for acceptable alternatives.
