Astromaterials Glovebox Systems - Design & Fabrication (A-BOX)This notice, issued by NASA’s Johnson Space Center under solicitation number 80JSC026A-BOX, is a Request for Information (RFI) for the design, fabrication, testing, delivery, and installation of controlled-atmosphere glovebox systems to support the Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science Curation Facility. The systems are intended for handling lunar and planetary samples, including those from Artemis missions, and must operate in ambient, cold (−85 to −20 °C), and ultra-cold/cryogenic (< −85 °C) environments while maintaining inert atmosphere conditions. Technical requirements are aligned with the American Glovebox Society Guidelines AGS-G001-2007 (3rd Edition), and compliance with quality standards such as ISO9001, AS9100, and NQA-1 is mandatory. The RFI seeks industry input on feasibility, capabilities, and cost estimates, with no formal proposals required. Access to the technical library containing detailed requirements is granted through SAM.gov after completing a two-step verification process and submitting a formal request form to NASA, with all requestors responsible for U.S. export control compliance. The response deadline has been extended to August 5, 2026, at 4:00 PM Central Time. The RFI emphasizes small business participation and solicit feedback on realistic subcontracting goals, barriers to entry for small businesses, and strategies to enhance involvement such as modularizing scope or encouraging teaming arrangements. NASA is considering potential set-asides for Small Business, Small Disadvantaged Business, HUBZone, Veteran-Owned, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, and Women-Owned Small Businesses. Organizational conflicts of interest (OCI) are a significant concern due to the nature of prior involvement in astromaterials handling and related design work; respondents must disclose any potential OCI and propose mitigation strategies, though NASA’s review at this stage does not constitute formal approval or assurance. Responses must be submitted electronically via email to the designated contracting officer and contract specialist, formatted according to Attachment II—Capabilities Questions and Responses—which addresses small business utilization, OCI, technical capability, and business considerations. The place of performance is the ARES Curation Facility in Houston, Texas, and final delivery and installation will occur there. No contract value, pricing, or award criteria are provided, as this is purely an information-gathering phase to inform future procurement strategy. Any information submitted is treated as voluntarily provided under FOIA and will not be publicly

Plate ReaderThe instrument required is a high-performance plate reader capable of real-time multimodal measurements including monochromator-based fluorescence, UV/Vis absorbance, and luminescence. It must feature a linear variable monochromator with tunable band passes up to 100nm and a tunable dichroic mirror enabling an air-based light path without fiber optics or light guides. Fluorescence detection requires auto-ranging sensitivity and gain capable of handling signals up to 760 million counts with enhanced dynamic range autoranging that activates in under 0.1 seconds. Absorbance measurements must be performed using a dedicated diode array spectrometer, not a monochromator, capable of capturing a full spectrum from 220nm to 1000nm at 1nm resolution in less than 0.5 seconds with simultaneous wavelength acquisition. The optical head must be heated to maintain a uniform temperature environment for incubated microplate wells during measurement, with a temperature controller capable of reaching at least 45°C. Bottom reading capability, two integrated reagent injectors for automated kinetic and flash luminescence triggering, and an atmospheric control unit with software-adjustable CO2 and O2 levels including 5% CO2 support for cell culture are mandatory. The system must be accompanied by comprehensive software for data visualization and analysis. The contract, titled Plate Reader and identified by solicitation number W911S226U3818, was posted on July 24, 2026, with a response deadline of August 6, 2026. It is a combined solicitation under NAICS code 334516, issued by the Department of Defense through the W6QM Micc-Ft Drum office located in Fort Drum, New York. The place of performance is listed with zip code 10996, and the primary point of contact is Carl Lundell, reachable at carl.lundell@westpoint.edu or 845-938-8298. The instrument must meet all technical specifications precisely to satisfy experimental and environmental demands of biological applications, particularly those requiring precise temperature, gas control, and rapid, high-resolution optical measurements.
