The National Institutes of Health Clinical Center intends to award a sole source purchase order to Haemonetics Corporation for Mononuclear Cell Separator apheresis kits, specifically models LN970 and LN971. These kits are essential for the Department of Transfusion Medicine to collect mononuclear cells supporting approximately 40 different protocols across seven institutes and the Clinical Center. Haemonetics is identified as the only responsible source because these kits are designed specifically for the Haemonetics MCS Cell Separator device. This specific equipment is required because it is the only apheresis machine capable of discontinuous, one arm venous access collection for volumes under 3x10e9 mononuclear cells, whereas alternative devices require two arm venous access and collect more cells than necessary for the researchers. Interested parties may submit proposals to Deborah Culpepper by the deadline of September 3, 2009.
