TA2872 - Walker Creek
Solicitation # TA2872
Timber Sale Licence TA2872 is a solicitation issued by the Ministry of Forests, BC Timber Sales, for the harvesting of merchantable Crown timber in the Walker Creek area of the Prince George Business Area. The contract involves multiple blocks, including Walker16_3B, Walker18_3B, Walker22_4A, and Walker22_4B, with an upset stumpage rate of 46.85 per cubic metre. The award is based on a competitive bidding process where the highest bonus bid from a registered BC timber sales enterprise determines the winner. The licence term is 24 months, and successful applicants must provide a security deposit in accordance with the BC Timber Sales Regulation. Operational requirements are heavily focused on environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance. Key constraints include a strict prohibition on timber hauling from May 3 to August 2 annually to protect migratory birds, and adherence to Omineca Region guidelines for spruce beetle management from May 1 to July 15. The licensee is responsible for creating at least 1,200 plantable spots per hectare, disposing of all roadside debris, and following rigorous caribou habitat protections, including temporary work shutdowns if caribou are present. Road use is governed by a Road Use Permit and a shared agreement with the Prince George Road User Committee, requiring participation in monthly safety meetings and pro-rata maintenance cost-sharing. Final acceptance of the work requires a Conformance Certificate signed by a Registered Professional Forester or Forest Technologist.
