AI Contract Overview

The Department of Commerce, through NIST, intends to procure atomic clocks to construct two ensemble time scales. These scales are designed to function as resilient sources of time and frequency signals and will serve as backup implementations of UTC(NIST), which is the agency's realization of Coordinated Universal Time. By averaging the outputs of several independent atomic clocks, the system aims to minimize noise, reduce bias, and eliminate dependency on any single clock. This opportunity is listed as a forecast with the place of performance located in Boulder. The project falls under NAICS code 541715. Interested parties may coordinate with Kathryn Stephenson or the DOC OSDBU for further information regarding this acquisition.

Full Description

NIST intends to construct two ensemble time scales to serve as resilient sources of time/frequency signals and as “backup” implementations of UTC(NIST), NIST’s realization of Coordinated Universal Time. An ensemble time scale consists of several independent atomic clocks, whose outputs are intercompared and usefully averaged together in a way that reduces bias, noise, and dependency on any one clock.
