The U.S. Air Force is conducting market research through a Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential non-commercial sources capable of manufacturing a replacement for the B-52 Radar Pressurization Unit (RPU) Compressor AC Motor, identified by National Stock Number 6105-00-870-7919 and Part Number 35YH68, with an initial requirement for 90 units. The motor, which previously was sourced exclusively from Goodrich Corp., TRW Lucas Aerospace, is no longer available through the original manufacturer, and the government does not own the technical data necessary for reproduction, requiring any prospective contractor to develop manufacturing capability without access to original design specifications. The motor must meet precise technical parameters including 115 volts AC, 1-phase, 400 Hz input power, 48 horsepower output at 7200 +/- 10% RPM, and a weight of 2 pounds 15 ounces, while conforming to form, fit, function, and interface standards outlined in T.O. 15A3-3-24-4. Contractors must furnish all components, materials, tools, test equipment, and support services, ensuring replacement parts meet or exceed original quality, and also provide engineering support for resolving obsolete parts, deficiency reports, and material improvement projects. Participation in this RFI is strictly for informational and planning purposes under FAR 52.215-3, and no contract will be awarded based on responses, nor will participants be reimbursed for any costs incurred. The solicitation, assigned to NAICS code 335312 (Motor and Generator Manufacturing) with a small business size standard of 1,250 employees, invites responses from both large and small businesses, including joint ventures and teaming arrangements, and encourages identification of work suitable for small business set-asides. Interested parties must demonstrate capability in reverse-engineering without technical data, handling classified information up to the Secret level, maintaining robust cybersecurity compliance including DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171 controls, managing supply chain risks, implementing a Continuity of Operations Plan, and ensuring full traceability and records retention for government assets. Responses must include comprehensive details on business structure, security clearance status, foreign ownership or influence, subcontractor controls, inventory management, and cybersecurity practices, and require completion of a detailed Contractor Capability Survey

The Department of Defense, through the AFSC PZABA, is conducting market research via presolicitation 21-00017 to identify sources capable of providing essential depot level repair for the B-52 APQ-166 Strategic Radar System Electron Tube, identified by NSN 5960-01-318-0987 and Part Number VMX-1849. The scope of work involves fault isolation, functional testing, inspection, and packaging of unserviceable assets to return them to a serviceable or like-new condition. This is a Firm-Fixed Price Requirements contract with a period of performance consisting of a basic one-year period, four 12-month ordering periods, and an optional six-month extension. The government notes that Communications and Power Industries (CPI) is the original manufacturer and current repair provider, and because the government does not own the technical data, it is considered uneconomical to purchase the data or reverse engineer the item. Performance is based on a maximum rate of two units per month, with all repairs required to meet the form, fit, function, and interface requirements of SCD 156-116. Quality acceptance is performed by DCMA at the repair site, and contractors must maintain a quality system adhering to ISO 9001.2000/ANSI/ASQC Q92. Key deliverables include reporting via the Commercial Asset Visibility Air Force (CAVAF) system and the submission of Engineering Change Proposals and Parts Approval Requests. Strict packaging standards are mandated, including compliance with ANSI S20.20 and MIL-HDBK-263-B for electrostatic discharge protection, and marking requirements per MIL-STD-129R and MIL-STD-130.
