The U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center's B-1 & B-52 Bomber Division is preparing to issue a Request for Prototype Proposals for the B-52 Commercial Engine Replacement Program under the Propulsion Consortium Initiative Other Transaction Agreement. The program aims to replace the B-52 fleet's current engines with new, commercially available engines to ensure operational viability through at least 2050. The procurement process will occur in two steps: first, identifying qualified engine vendors who will collaborate with Boeing on engine integration approaches, and second, having those vendors submit finalized proposals evaluated through a best-value government selection. Only vendors who successfully complete the first step and are members of the USAF Propulsion Consortium Initiative will be eligible for the subsequent competition. This notice serves as an advanced informational announcement to the industry and consortium members, outlining the selection process and membership requirements. The project will be performed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma, and technical and membership inquiries can be directed to designated points of contact within the consortium and the Air Force contracting office. Interested vendors must ensure they meet the updated system requirements, including supportability of engines through 2050 and beyond, as detailed in the revised draft Systems Requirements Document. Prototype projects will not be awarded directly from this announcement; instead, qualified teams will be selected to participate in the upcoming Request for Prototype Proposals.
