The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to award a sole source purchase order to Applied Biosystems in Foster City, California, for the procurement of RP 5000 and Seq Buffer kits. The justification for this sole source award is based on FAR 6.302-1, which allows non-competitive procurement because Applied Biosystems is the only known supplier with the specialized knowledge and capability to provide the required product. This action is not open for competitive proposals nor is there a solicitation available. However, the CDC invites other firms that believe they can supply the necessary products to submit a written notice to the Contracting Officer within 15 days of the announcement, so the agency can consider whether competition is appropriate.
