The U.S. Geological Survey’s Earthquake Science Center in Pasadena, CA, is seeking information from qualified laboratories capable of performing cosmogenic radionuclide dating of rock fragments and sediments. This includes complete sample preparation and accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) measurement to determine the in situ abundance of the nuclides 10Be and 26Al in quartz components of geologic samples. The scope involves crushing, grinding, quartz separation, chemical extraction of BeO and Al2O3, and target preparation, with a requirement to analyze 19 samples. Laboratories must adhere to established quality assurance and quality control procedures, demonstrate documented analytical success with small abundances, and achieve background ratios of 1x10^-15 or less for both nuclides. This request is a sources sought notice to assess industry capability and is not a solicitation or commitment by the Government. The NAICS code associated is 541380, indicating laboratory testing services, and the anticipated contract size standard is $15 million. Interested and capable firms were invited to respond by August 21, 2017, through electronic submission to the specified point of contact. This action is intended to identify potential contractors who can meet the stringent technical and quality requirements for this specialized geochronology work.

This is a Request for Information. The U.S. Geological Survey, Earthquake Science Center, Pasadena, CA, has a requirement for cosmogenic radionuclide dating of rock fragments and sediments, including sample preparation and accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) measurement. The lab determines the in situ abundance of a specific nuclide in the quartz component of a geologic sample. The nuclides targeted are 10Be (beryllium) and 26Al (aluminum). The laboratory is to perform the sample preparation as well as AMS measurement of both 10Be and 26Al, including: crushing and grinding of clast or sand-sized particles; quartz separation and purification; chemical extraction of BeO and Al2O3; and target preparation. The requirement is to analyze 19 samples for both nuclides. Established QA/QC procedures for sample preparation and peer-reviewed documentation of analytical success for both nuclides in small abundances are required. In particular, the lab should achieve background ratios of 1x10-15 or less for both nuclides. The North American Industry Classification (NAICS) Code is 541380. Laboratory testing. The size standard is $15.0 million dollars. This sources sought notice is for informational purposes only and shall not be considered a solicitation, obligation, or commitment by the Government. No contract will be award as a result of this sources sought announcement. The United States Geological Survey, Office of Acquisition and Grants is soliciting information from qualified sources; the results of this announcement will be evaluated to determine if there are businesses capable of performing the proposed work. Firms with expressed interest and capability are encouraged to respond by August 21, 2017. All questions and submissions in response to this notice must be submitted electronically via email to Cheryl Ciccarelli contact@example.gov

Solicitation # 140G0126Q0288
Request for Quote 140G0126Q0288 is a total small business set-aside issued by the Department of the Interior, USGS/EROS Science Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The project requires a professional firm to remove and replace chilled water, condenser water, and heating water piping serving the 1996 building addition. Key technical requirements include installing a new condenser water network with pumps and VFDs, sizing the chilled water system to support two 1996 York chillers at a maximum capacity of approximately 600 tons, and replacing pneumatic controls in the penthouse with multi-position electric actuators. The contractor must execute the work in phases to ensure that facility offices and computer rooms remain fully operational, and weekend work is prohibited. The contract will be awarded based on the Lowest Price Technically Acceptable (LPTA) process, evaluating firm-fixed-price offers for technical acceptability and past performance. The period of performance is scheduled from November 4, 2026, to July 31, 2027, with work expected to be completed within 180 calendar days of award. Compliance with the Davis-Bacon Act for wage determinations and the Buy American Requirement for construction materials is mandatory. D--Intent to Award
Solicitation # 140G0126Q0188
The U.S. Geological Survey intends to award a sole source purchase order to EarthScope Consortium, Inc. for the long-term archiving, curation, and dissemination of continuous Global Navigation Satellite System data generated by USGS-supported monitoring stations, with a period of performance spanning from August 1, 2026, through June 30, 2031, including four one-year option periods. This action is justified under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1) due to EarthScope Consortium’s unique status as the sole nationally recognized, USGS-approved repository for GNSS data that meets the agency’s Fundamental Science Practices requirements for trusted, discipline-appropriate data management. EarthScope operates the GAGE geophysical data facilities, which already provide scalable, production-level infrastructure, standardized workflows, and metadata frameworks used by USGS and other federal and academic partners, eliminating the need for redundant or incompatible systems. The decision follows comprehensive market research that confirmed no other entity can provide equivalent services without prohibitive cost, delay, or fragmentation of data standards. The requirement includes routine annual archiving for active stations and a single ingestion of historical data from a legacy station, with all services delivered through an existing, certified cyberinfrastructure that ensures data integrity and broad accessibility. EarthScope’s established role as the primary national hub for GNSS data, its deep integration with USGS science operations, and its proven compliance with federal data governance policies make it the only viable source for this critical function. The contracting office has determined that competition would be impractical due to the specialized technical, scientific, and infrastructure requirements, and future competitions would only be considered if new repositories are formally recognized as meeting USGS FSP standards or if the agency develops an internally managed archive of equivalent capability. Questions regarding this intent to award must be submitted to the Contract Specialist by June 29, 2026, and the action will proceed under simplified acquisition procedures without soliciting competitive bids.
