Bay Area Vipassana Center Project

The Bay Area Vipassana Center Project, managed by Santa Clara County under solicitation PLN20-003, involves the development of a meditation retreat center located on a 54.59-acre site in Gilroy, California. The project entails the construction of 18 structures totaling 53,260 square feet, primarily clustered across approximately 10 acres on the eastern half of the property. In addition to the new buildings, the scope includes the demolition of an existing barn and the installation of extensive on-site infrastructure, such as a 97,000-gallon water tank, access roads, parking facilities, and a comprehensive wastewater management system featuring septic tanks, pump stations, and subsurface drip irrigation. The project is scheduled for completion over a six-year period divided into five distinct phases. Environmental compliance has been established through a Final Environmental Impact Report and a Notice of Determination filed in September 2026, confirming that the project adheres to the California Environmental Quality Act requirements. Project management is coordinated through the County of Santa Clara Department of Planning and Development, with primary oversight provided by Lara Tran and additional management support from Brian McNamara and Darcy Kremin.
