The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Bio-Rad for 2 each, CFX Opus 96 RT-PCR Thermocyclers, this system uses a unique hollow liquid filled silver and gold block and optical technologies which allow for increased speed of the PCR reaction and accommodates a unique type of plate which allows the user to reduce the number of reagents used per run. Because we test mosquito pools, we need a higher throughput system (no less than 96 samples per run) to efficiently test the amount of mosquito pools needed to accurately calculate the infection rate in the mosquito population. We have already developed and optimized our virus detection protocols for the earlier models of CFX96 which serve our needs. CFX96 Opus from Bio-Rad Laboratories offers continual technical support when you order their machines directly. We also have other Bio-Rad Icycler and CFX96 machines (for>20 years). Therefore, it is in the Government best interest to continue using the same system. This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (SAP) and 41 U.S.C. 3304(a)(1).
