Removal of the obsolete steel truss bridge. The structure is currently closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic due to is being a public-safety hazard. Project will removal all steel truss members and floor system that rest atop the existing concrete piers. Nevada County proposes to remove the superstructure of a closed, obsolete steel truss bridge originally constructed in 1890 by Cotton Brothers & Co. The bridge (approximately 11 Oft long x 16 ft wide) was taken out of service in 1981 when Bitney Springs Road was realigned, and a new bridge (17C0085) was built approximately 150 feet upstream. The structure is posted closed, structurally deficient, and presents a public-safety hazard (attractive nuisance) and ongoing County liability. This project will remove all steel truss members and floor system, Creosote-treated timber decking and stringers, and Creosote-treated timber columns/posts that rest atop the existing concrete piers. The concrete portions of the substructure (abutments, six intermediate piers =5 ft high) will remain in place. No concrete demolition or excavation below deck elevation is proposed, and no replacement structure will be constructed.
