The Western Montana Acquisition Zone antcipates a Request for Quote for forest wide trail maintenance for the USDA Forest Service, Bitterroot National Forest. The Contractor shall provide all expertise, labor, supervision, services, equipment, mobilization, tools, supplies (i.e., water, etc.), permits, licenses, transportation, and incidentals necessary to perform trail maintenance on OHV and single track trails (wilderness and non-wilderness). The work involves logging out the trail clearing limits of downed or leaning trees; removing loose rocks and woody debris that have entered the trail tread; and cleaning all existing drainage facilities (to original design) since the last maintenance period . No brushing or blasting is required. OHV trail drainage structures will require considerably more work than single track structures. Government estimates of time are 15-30 minutes per OHV drainage structure. There are approximately 50 structures per mile. These estimates are made using basic hand tools. Tread widths may vary from 50 maximum width on TR# 39 & 313 - Chain of Lakes & Bitterroot-Rock Divide, to 64 maximum width on TR# 182, 185 & 248 - Taylor Creek, Jew Mtn & Drop Creek. Past trailway maintenance practice has used chainsaws (on trails NOT in wilderness), crosscut saws (on trails in wilderness) and various hand tools to effectively perform this type of work. The terrain is characterized by very steep and deeply dissected topography. Conditions on the trails will vary widely in regard to amount of blowdown, rocks, and grade. Weather conditions in this area are unpredictable and may include thunder, lightning storms, and wind. These conditions are already accommodated in the delivery schedule. This solicitation will be solicited under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). No site visit is scheduled for this project. For further information, please contact Nick Hazelbaker at the West Fork Ranger Station at +1 (555) 000-0000. The solicitation will be issued approximately April 23, 2009. Estimated start date is June 15, 2009.
