The contract involves the excavation of two new river bend channels, each about 1,600 feet long, on the Cuyahoga River within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Summit County, Ohio. The project includes removing soil from the new channels, some of which will be used to fill parts of the existing river channel to redirect water flow through the new bends, while excess material will be disposed of off-site. Key activities are scheduled over three years, with most excavation taking place in the first year and completing the remaining excavation and filling work in the third year. Additionally, vegetation plantings are planned for both the first and third years to support environmental restoration. The work also entails the removal of numerous trees, some of which will be repurposed as rootwads to stabilize the new channel banks, along with placing riprap for erosion control. Excavation of shoals within the river will be performed, and some of the shoal material will be reused as stone fill. This project is a total small business set-aside under NAICS code 237990, managed by the Department of Defense’s Buffalo office, with points of contact available for more details.
