The Florida Forest Service is seeking sealed bids for a salvage timber harvest resulting from damage caused by a severe weather event on May 10, 2024. The primary damage area covers approximately 5,126 acres, with less than 10% of the timber affected in most parts, while certain substantial damage zones within this area, totaling around 584 acres, have damage levels reaching up to 100%. The contract emphasizes two priority zones: the Munson Seed Orchard and the vicinity of Bear Lake Recreation Area, with harvest operations expected to commence within five days of contract award, starting at Munson and then moving south of Bear Lake. The sale involves all damaged timber, including blown down, broken, or leaning trees exceeding 15 degrees, though harvesting of undamaged timber requires prior approval from the Forester-In-Charge. Boundaries for the sale are defined by roads, wetlands, forest edges, recreational sites, and changes in timber types or damage levels. The contract duration is six months, and there is no specified volume estimate, making the scope primarily dependent on the extent of damage and timber condition. Bidders are advised that this salvage sale is advertised concurrently with the BRSF West 2024 Salvage Sale. If a bidder's proposal ranks highest on both sales, they must forfeit one to facilitate quicker response times. The bidding process is open until May 28, 2024, and interested parties can obtain detailed bid information by contacting Julie Wood or Todd Knapp. The Florida Forest Service retains the right to reject any or all bids and to waive irregularities, ensuring flexibility in the procurement process. The contract aims to facilitate rapid removal of damaged timber to promote forest health and recovery, with the successful bidder expected to begin operations promptly upon award.

This is a salvage harvest of pine and hardwood timber that suffered damage from the May 10, 2024, severe weather event. This contract consists of a primary damage area of approximately 5,126 acres where roughly 10% or less of timber was damaged. Within this area are substantial damage areas (584 acres total) where the damage percentage increases to up to 100%. There are two high priorities for this contract, with one area being the Munson Seed Orchard and the other being the area surrounding the Bear Lake Recreation Area.
