The Fullerton Joint Union High School District is implementing the Buena Park High School Field Improvements Project, which involves the installation of 18 new field lights across the varsity baseball, junior varsity baseball, and varsity softball fields. The lighting configuration includes a mix of poles ranging from 60 to 80 feet in height. This project is designed to enable 11 additional evening practices between 3:30 PM and 8:00 PM, though it will not increase student enrollment, participant numbers, or the frequency of spectator events. Construction is planned as a single phase starting in March 2027 and must adhere to the City of Buena Park noise standards. To implement the project, the District must secure project approval, adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration, and establish a Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Program. Comprehensive environmental reviews have been conducted, including a Traffic Impact Study, a technical noise analysis, and an air quality and greenhouse gas assessment. Additionally, a search of the Sacred Lands File was performed to evaluate potential impacts on tribal cultural resources. The project has undergone a public review period from September 24 to October 23, 2026, and involves coordination with the Division of the State Architect and the California Department of Education.
