Butte County Fire Safe Council Fuels Reduction Program

The Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is providing funding to the Butte County Fire Safe Council to implement forest and watershed restoration activities on up to 52.5 acres of State Responsibility Area lands near the Town of Paradise in Butte County. The primary objective of the program is to establish connections between previous fuels reduction and forest health projects to achieve wide-scale forest restoration within the Wildland Urban Interface. Approved on October 22, 2025, the project focuses on reducing fuel loads and promoting forest health through climate beneficial prescriptions. Authorized treatment methods include manual thinning, manual piling, and pile burning, all of which must remain consistent with the Paradise Fuels Reduction Initial Study-Mitigated Negative Declaration. Additional related activities under the Magalia Forest and Wildfire Resilience Project Amendment include prescribed burns, grazing, hand cutting, and lop and scatter treatments across approximately 27 acres, specifically targeting Noble Park, Oak Creek Park, and adjacent private parcels. These efforts are certified under CEQA to ensure no significant environmental effects occur while enhancing wildfire resilience in the region.
