The Department of Veterans Affairs Central Iowa Health Care System awarded contract 36C26320C0180 to The Schemmer Associates, located in Omaha, Nebraska, for the redesign of the CLC Cottage Hospice in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This sole source procurement, conducted under NAICS code 541330 and the authority of FAR 6.302-1, was valued at 356,329.97 dollars with an award date of July 31, 2020. The project required the original architectural and engineering firm to refresh architectural finishes, physical security, resiliency, and the site location for the building based on conceptual designs and construction documents originally completed in 2016. The government determined that negotiating with The Schemmer Associates was the only viable option to avoid the duplication of extensive site investigation and structural, architectural, plumbing, and HVAC design work. Utilizing the firm's specialized knowledge of the existing requirements allowed for a shorter completion timeline. The procurement was managed by the Network Contract Office 23, with Kenneth A. Spohn serving as the Contracting Officer.
