Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Collections

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is issuing a permit to the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium under Fish and Game Code Section 2081(a) for educational purposes. This permit authorizes the aquarium to capture steelhead trout and Chinook salmon for its permanent collections. The project is categorized as exempt under California Code of Regulations Section 15306, as the information collection activities are not expected to cause serious disturbance to the listed species. The scope of work involves year-round permanent collection sampling of nearshore marine species in the waters of San Luis Obispo, Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties. Authorized sampling methods include various hook and line techniques, trawls, seines, nets, and fish traps. This authorization remains in effect through December 31, 2028. Administrative oversight is provided by the Department of Fish and Wildlife Marine Region, with Dylan Inskeep serving as the primary environmental scientist and lead agency contact.
