The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to award a sole source contract to Suburban Surgical Company, Inc., based in Wheeling, Illinois, for the procurement of eighty specialized stainless steel non-human primate cages. These cages are designed with four compartments to house multiple primates, featuring enlarged side-opening doors for safer and more comfortable access. The design allows for social interaction between animals housed side-by-side, above, or below each other, with configurable visual barriers that can be operated from outside the cage. The cages also have flush excreta pans that can tilt to function as metabolism pans, enhancing ease of cleaning and animal care. This procurement is based on the justification that Suburban Surgical Company, Inc. is the only known source with the specific expertise and capability to provide these specialized cages, as authorized under FAR Part 6.302-1. The contract will be awarded on an all-or-none basis without a competitive solicitation or set-aside, and JKT Development, Inc. is authorized to act on behalf of CDC for this purchase. Questions related to the contract can be directed to Philippa D. Butts, the designated contract specialist, via email or fax.
