Calaveras Big Trees EV Main Visitor Parking

The Calaveras Big Trees EV Main Visitor Parking project, managed by the California Department of Parks and Recreation Central Valley District, involves the installation of eight Level 2 single-port pedestal-mounted electric vehicle charging stations in the main parking lot of Calaveras Big Trees State Park. The scope of work includes significant site preparation and demolition, specifically the removal of approximately 815 square feet of asphalt, 234 square feet of concrete sidewalk, 92 square feet of landscaping, and 13 square feet of curbing. To facilitate the electrical infrastructure, the contractor will excavate trenches up to 24 inches deep to install electrical conduit with warning tape placed 12 inches above the line, eventually connecting the new units to the existing power supply. The project also requires comprehensive site restoration and compliance with accessibility standards. This includes grading to meet ADA slopes, matching existing paving and curb elevations, and installing new asphalt, concrete sidewalks, equipment pads, and bollard foundations. Final site improvements will feature new EV-only striping, accessible markings, and the installation of truncated domes where necessary. The project has been granted a Notice of Exemption from the California Department of Parks and Recreation, as it is categorized as involving minor alterations and limited new small facilities with negligible expansion of use.
