The F-16 weapon system utilizes a carbon brake. The Government would like to know the yield rates for the carbon rotor and stator for possible conversion into 2-for-1 rotors and stators for a more efficient use of the product. Additionally, wear life testing will be required from any resultant contract. The Government anticipates awarding a contract to United Technologies Aerospace Systems (UTAS) - Landing Systems division to evaluate carbon discs used in the following NSNs which have been deemed to be sole source to UTAS: F-16 Heavy Weight Heatstack (NSN 1630-01-333-1843) F-16 Light Weight Heatstack (NSN 1630-01-478-4076) These parts are currently purchased through UTAS contract SPM4AX-08-D-9408. It is anticipated that any resultant contract action will be awarded against contract SPM4AX-08-D-9408.
