Carmel Woods and Pescadero Road Sewer Main Rehabilitation Project

The Carmel Woods and Pescadero Road Sewer Main Rehabilitation Project, managed by the Carmel Area Wastewater District, involves the replacement and rehabilitation of critical sewer infrastructure across two residential sites in unincorporated Monterey County and the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea. The project is designed to ensure reliable wastewater service and minimize future sewer spills by addressing deteriorated 6-inch diameter vitrified clay pipe gravity sewer mains. The scope includes the rehabilitation or replacement of approximately 14,850 linear feet of sewer main using polyvinyl chloride or high-density polyethylene materials or the installation of lining systems. While most work follows existing alignments, some segments will be realigned to improve maintenance access. The project is divided into two primary components: the Carmel Woods site, located along Camino Del Monte, San Juan Road, and San Marcos Road, and the Pescadero Road site, which spans Pescadero Road, Lincoln Street, 2nd Avenue, and Monte Verde Street. At the Pescadero Road site, a new sewer main will be constructed, and a portion of the existing hillside main will be abandoned and filled with cellular concrete or one-sack slurry. Environmental compliance has been managed under the California Environmental Quality Act, with a Final Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration concluding that the project will not have significant environmental effects.
