AI Contract Overview
The National Institutes of Health is seeking to procure a single ChemiDoc™ MP Imaging System, Catalog # 12003154, manufactured by Bio-Rad, to enhance molecular biology research capabilities at a laboratory in Bethesda, Maryland. This acquisition is for a fully featured imaging system capable of high-sensitivity detection and quantification of chemiluminescent and fluorescent western blots, nucleic acid and protein gels, and stain-free gels, addressing current limitations in shared equipment that cause bottlenecks and variability in data collection. The system includes necessary consumables: White and Blue imaging accessories, StarBright Blue 700 Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG, and hFAB™ Rhodamine Anti-Tubulin Primary Antibody. The procurement is being conducted under FAR Part 12 and FAR Part 13 as a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items using a Firm Fixed Price contract structure, with a clear preference for the original manufacturer, Bio-Rad, over other vendors despite comparative pricing, due to platform compatibility and operational continuity. The requirement specifies delivery within seven days of award and includes no options or extended performance period. Solicitation number 75N98026Q00382 closes on June 15, 2026, at 9:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time, with award pending to the most advantageous offeror based on technical merit, past performance, and cost, where non-cost factors are significantly more important than price. The NAICS code is 334516 with a small business size standard of 1,000 employees, and the acquisition is unrestricted. Offerors must submit completed representations and certifications per FAR 52.212-3, with SAM-registered entities only required to affirm paragraph (b). The contracting office is located at 6701 Rockledge Drive, Bethesda, MD 20817, and all inquiries must be directed to Purchasing Agent Towanda Daniels at danielt@mail.nih.gov. The government will accept offers conforming to solicitation requirements without further negotiation, and the contract will become binding upon written notification of award within the offer’s specified acceptance window. Brand name or equal procedures apply, and the acquisition is governed by the Federal Acquisition Circular 2026-01 effective March 13, 2026, including applicable addenda to FAR clauses 52.212-4 and

PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose: The research lab of Dr. Chittiboina requires a ChemiDoc™ MP Imaging System to reliably document and quantify results from routine molecular biology workflows, including chemiluminescent and fluorescent blot imaging and gel documentation. This instrument will provide high-sensitivity, reproducible imaging needed for accurate data capture, compliance-ready recordkeeping, and efficient experiment throughput. Purchasing the system from BioRad supports continuity with established Bio-Rad platform compatibility and service/support expectations for lab operations. Dr. Chittiboina intend to buy this instrument to fulfil the research requirements.
2. Background Information and Objective: The intent of this order is to purchase the ChemiDoc™ MP Imaging System manufactured by Bio-Rad, 2000 Alfred Nobel Drive, Hercules, CA 94547. Current imaging access is limited and/or relies on older shared equipment, creating bottlenecks and variability in data acquisition for protein and nucleic acid analyses. The objective of acquiring the ChemiDoc™ MP Imaging System is to strengthen the lab’s capability to standardize imaging conditions, improve quantitative accuracy, and reduce turnaround time for experimental documentation. This will enhance the quality and traceability of research outputs and support ongoing and future studies requiring robust gel and blot imaging. The ChemiDoc MP Imaging System is a full-feature, best in class instrument for imaging and quantifying nucleic acid and protein in gels and western blots. It is capable of imaging fluorescent western blots (RGB, far-red, near-IR), chemiluminescent western blots, all common nucleic acid and protein gel stains, plus stain-free gels.
