AI Contract Overview
The Department of Health and Human Services, specifically the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, is soliciting bids for the purchase of a ChemiDoc™ MP Imaging System. This solicitation, issued on June 1, 2026, under the number 75N98026Q00382, aims to acquire a high-sensitivity imaging instrument used in molecular biology for documenting and quantifying results from assays such as chemiluminescent and fluorescent blot imaging and gel documentation. The system, manufactured exclusively by Bio-Rad, is crucial for the research lab of Dr. Chittiboina to improve data accuracy, throughput, and compliance with recordkeeping standards. The ChemiDoc MP system supports a range of imaging applications including fluorescent and chemiluminescent western blots, and is intended to replace older shared equipment that currently limits access and causes variability in data acquisition. The contract will be awarded as a firm fixed price agreement, with proposals due by June 15, 2026, at 9:00 AM EDT. Award decisions will consider technical capability, past performance, and cost, with technical and past performance factors carrying greater weight than price. The purchase will prioritize Bio-Rad due to their pricing advantage over other suppliers, with delivery expected within seven days of contract award. The procurement follows Federal Acquisition Regulations parts 12 and 13 for commercial items, and all necessary certifications and representations must be submitted by offerors. The point of contact for this solicitation is Towanda Daniels, Purchasing Agent at the NIH, who can be reached via email for further inquiries.

PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose: The research lab of Dr. Chittiboina requires a ChemiDoc™ MP Imaging System to reliably document and quantify results from routine molecular biology workflows, including chemiluminescent and fluorescent blot imaging and gel documentation. This instrument will provide high-sensitivity, reproducible imaging needed for accurate data capture, compliance-ready recordkeeping, and efficient experiment throughput. Purchasing the system from BioRad supports continuity with established Bio-Rad platform compatibility and service/support expectations for lab operations. Dr. Chittiboina intend to buy this instrument to fulfil the research requirements.
2. Background Information and Objective: The intent of this order is to purchase the ChemiDoc™ MP Imaging System manufactured by Bio-Rad, 2000 Alfred Nobel Drive, Hercules, CA 94547. Current imaging access is limited and/or relies on older shared equipment, creating bottlenecks and variability in data acquisition for protein and nucleic acid analyses. The objective of acquiring the ChemiDoc™ MP Imaging System is to strengthen the lab’s capability to standardize imaging conditions, improve quantitative accuracy, and reduce turnaround time for experimental documentation. This will enhance the quality and traceability of research outputs and support ongoing and future studies requiring robust gel and blot imaging. The ChemiDoc MP Imaging System is a full-feature, best in class instrument for imaging and quantifying nucleic acid and protein in gels and western blots. It is capable of imaging fluorescent western blots (RGB, far-red, near-IR), chemiluminescent western blots, all common nucleic acid and protein gel stains, plus stain-free gels.
