Crimson Solar Project

The Crimson Solar Project, managed by Recurrent Energy, involves significant environmental amendments and construction activities within Riverside County on Bureau of Land Management lands. Under the oversight of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Inland Deserts Region, the project has undergone amendments to its Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement and its Incidental Take Permit. Specifically, Amendment No. 4 to the Incidental Take Permit expands the scope of protected species to include the western burrowing owl alongside the desert tortoise. These amendments address the project's impact on approximately 1,983.6 acres of habitat and mandate strict adherence to avoidance, minimization, and mitigation measures, as well as a formal mitigation reporting or monitoring plan. The technical scope of the project includes the construction of the Cobalt Gen-tie interconnection, which entails the preparation and construction of monopoles and their foundations, tensioning lines across the monopoles, and the trenching and laying of fiber optic cables at terminal ends. The project is required to maintain compliance with the California Endangered Species Act, Public Resources Code, and various Fish and Game Code requirements regarding environmental filing fees. Administrative oversight is provided by the CDFW, with Marlee Poff serving as the primary point of contact and Brandy Wood acting as the Environmental Program Manager. The project is located west of the City of Blythe and south of Interstate 10.
