This project is for a hazard fuels reduction on approximately 180 acres of the Beartooth Ranger District/Custer National Forest. The 2014 Horseman Flats Hazardous Fuels Mastication Project is a continuation of the ranger district's hazard fuels program. The Horseman Flats units are located west of Nye, Montana and northwest of the Stillwater Mine Complex. The purpose of this project is to provide wildfire management more suppression options to reduce the possibility of future wildfires from spreading beyond National Forest System lands. This project is intended to reduce hazardous fuel loading, thin mixed coniferous stands, and provide long-term effectiveness of fuels treatments by reducing fire intensities. This is a mechanical (tracked excavator) mastication project. Conifer stands will be thinned and generated chips will be left on site to either be broadcast burned or naturally decompose. The project is located on the Beartooth Ranger District on the Custer National Forest. Horseman Flats units are located near Nye, MT: T5S, R15E, portions of sections 8,9,15,16, 21 and FS Road 2848. It is anticipated the solicitation and all materials for bidding will be posted to the FBO website in early to mid July. Currently this project is unfunded, however, if funding is unavailable at the time the solicitation is posted the appropricate provisions will be placed in the solicitation and in no event will a contract be awarded until such time as funds are made available for award. For information about the technical aspects of this project, please contact Jeff Stockwell at +1 (555) 000-0000 or Drew Grimes at +1 (555) 000-0000. This project will be offered as a 100% Total Small Business Set-Aside.
